The City of Parkland is a primarily residential area that has portions designed for commercial and industrial development. This diverse community of 25,000 people is beautifully located within a tranquil, wooded environment in Northwest Broward County. Since 1963, the city has been intentional about maintaining its small-town, park-like feel but has not shied away from great amenities. Parkland has an impressive 8.5 miles of multipurpose trails, sidewalks, and bike paths. Also, there is a 5.5-acre park with sports field lighting with tot lot, another 50-acre park with sports lighting and other amenities, 20-acre Doris Davis Forman Wilderness Preserve, 7.5 -acre Equestrian Center, and an impressive 7-acre, citizen constructed, Liberty Park that has multiple play areas that are modeled after Patriotic themes. Recently, the first and second phase of the 80-acre Pine Trials park is completed and includes three pavilions, four tee-ball fields, fishing pier, boardwalk, restrooms, community center and an Amphitheater!
Parkland has a top-tier education system. There are 5 public schools: Riverglades, Heron Heights, and Park Trails Elementary Schools (K-5); Westglades Middle School (6-8); and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (9-12). There are also two private schools – Mary Help of Christian and Kol Tikvah preschool.
